WIE GEHE ICH MIT BEGEHREN IM YOGA UM?

In manchen Yogatexten heißt es, Begehren sei eine der Ursachen – wenn nicht die Ursache – menschlichen Leidens. Sätze großer Yogis wie Osho, „Desiring must cease“, tragen zu Missverständnissen bei.

Traditionelle asketische Yoga-Ansätze deuten etwa aus den Yoga Sutras (1.15) folgende Aussage:

„Nicht-Anhaftung ist das Bewusstsein der Meisterschaft, erreicht durch Kontrolle der Begehren nach gesehenen oder gehörten Objekten“ so, dass Impulse des Begehrens aufgelöst oder zumindest widerstanden werden müssen. Zugleich heißt es in einem anderen Yoga Sutra (1.22)

„Hinter jeder Errungenschaft steht immer eine Kraft: Begehren.“

Wie soll modernes Yoga damit umgehen? Und vor allem: Wie sollen wir in dieser Welt völlig ohne Begehren leben können? Schauen wir, wie wir dieses kleine Dilemma etwas entwirren können.

Ja, es liegt etwas Wahres darin, dass Begehren uns stets unzufrieden hält. Du hast das vermutlich oft erlebt: Sobald du etwas Bekommen hast, wonach du dich gesehnt hast, wurde es früher oder später bedeutungslos. Die nächste Stufe, das Bessere, mehr davon oder einfach etwas anderes nimmt den Platz des ursprünglichen Begehrens ein. Es stimmt also, dass Begehren nicht gerade zu Frieden oder Freiheit führt. Fast alle Yogastile teilen zudem das Hauptziel: Freiheit. Willst du echte Freiheit, kommst du nicht darum herum, dich dem Begehren und dem Umgang damit zu stellen.

Ist der einzige Weg, Begehren aufzulösen, sich vom weltlichen Geschehen zurückzuziehen und in eine Höhle zu gehen? Vielleicht – für moderne Yogis aber ziemlich unpraktisch. Oder das Verlangen vehement zu unterdrücken? Wir wissen, dass das schnell nach hinten losgehen kann. Wie lässt sich Meisterschaft über Begehren also anders anwenden?

In den tantrischen Yogalehren finden wir einen etwas anderen Umgang als in manchen klassischen Schriften. Begehren ist nichts Unreines, nichts „Böses“, nichts, das uns zwangsläufig im Weg steht und zerstört werden muss. Mehr noch: Alles, was existiert, gilt als göttlich – einschließlich des Begehrens selbst. Und wie könnte etwas Göttliches falsch sein?

Begehren kann ein Mittel sein, uns auf den Weg zur Selbsterkenntnis zu bringen. Es kann zur Freiheit führen – wenn wir die richtige Perspektive einnehmen.

Am Kern des Begehrens finden wir: Es ist der Ausdruck unserer eigenen Unvollständigkeit. Ein diffuses, meist unbewusstes Gefühl des Haben-Wollens, des Nicht-Genug-Seins, der Getrenntheit. Bekommst du, was du willst, gibt es einen kleinen, vorübergehenden Peak – kurz danach folgt die nächste Sehnsucht. Dieser Prozess verstärkt diese auf Täuschung basierenden Wünsche und das Gefühl, nicht vollständig zu sein. An der Wurzel liegt die Sehnsucht nach Ganzheit. Es braucht einen Perspektivwechsel – zugegeben nicht von heute auf morgen –, um zu erkennen, dass du und alles bereits vollkommen bist. Aus dieser Sicht brauchst du nichts mehr – du bist genug! Und du musst nichts tun, um das zu erreichen, denn das würde bedeuten, etwas sei unvollständig.

Diese Erkenntnis ist ein Prozess und beginnt mit dem Wunsch, dieses ganze Du zu erfahren. Deshalb ist Begehren, wie Pandit Rajmani Tigunait das Sutra übersetzt: „Hinter jeder Errungenschaft steht immer eine Kraft: Begehren“, ein Werkzeug, mit dem du Impuls für Handlung setzen darfst.

Es lässt uns sozusagen laufen lernen, dem Ziel näherzukommen. Am Ende ist dieses Laufen nur ein Teil des Prozesses: Später, wenn wir bereit sind, ist weder das Ziel noch das Laufen selbst das Wesentliche – sondern in welchem Zustand wir es tun. 

Das kann bedeuten: Wir haben weiterhin Begehren, müssen ihnen aber nicht aus einem Gefühl der Unvollkommenheit nachjagen, sondern können sie als kreativen Impuls nutzen, in Handlung zu gehen und uns als göttlichen Ausdruck zu erfahren.

Etwas zum Mitnehmen: Nutze die Gelegenheit deines nächsten Begehrens, herauszufinden, was dahintersteckt. Was ist die treibende Kraft und woher kommt sie? Und vielleicht kannst du erkennen, ob deine Motivation aus einem Selbstbild kommt. Vielleicht kannst du diese treibende Energie in einen wunderbaren, spontanen Ausdruck deines vollständigen Selbst verwandeln – das einfach ist und sich mit der Welt teilen will.

It suggests that by investigating the nature of our thoughts, emotions, sensations, and perceptions, we can arrive at a direct experience of the non-dual reality. Practices such as self-inquiry, meditation, and contemplation are often employed to facilitate this process of self-discovery. By turning our attention inward and examining our subjective experience, we can begin to unravel the layers of conditioning and identification that perpetuate the illusion of separation. Non-dual philosophy asserts that the realization of non-duality is not something to be achieved or attained, but rather a recognition of what is already and always present. It is a shift in perception that reveals the underlying unity and interconnectedness of all things. This realization is said to bring about a profound sense of peace, freedom, and liberation, as one recognizes their essential nature as pure consciousness or awareness. In summary, non-duality is a spiritual philosophy that points to the inherent unity of all existence. It challenges the conventional understanding of reality as separate and encourages a direct exploration of one's own experience to discover the truth of one's being. By transcending the limitations of duality and recognizing the underlying oneness, non-duality offers a transformative understanding that can profoundly impact one's perception of oneself, others, and the world.
