Erst vor Kurzem wurde entdeckt, was Wissenschaftler als Neuroplastizität bezeichnen – die Fähigkeit des Gehirns, seine Verbindungen zu verändern und neue Synapsen zu bilden. In einer neueren Studie zwischen Meditierenden und Nicht-Meditierenden zeigte sich, dass Erstere mehr graue Substanz (ein Gewebe des ZNS, in dem Zellkörper, Dendriten und Synapsen liegen) in Hirnregionen wie dem Hippocampus hatten, die mit Gedächtnis, Lernen und Bewusstsein verbunden sind. Das legt nahe, dass die Gehirne von Meditierenden besser darin sind, Aufmerksamkeit zu steuern, Entscheidungen zu treffen, Informationen zu speichern und Emotionen zu regulieren. Das kann einfach erreicht werden, wenn du Meditation praktizierst. Deine Aufmerksamkeit auf den Atem zu richten und Gefühle wie Selbstannahme und Liebe zu kultivieren aktiviert unmittelbar Regionen deines Gehirns – und du fühlst dich mehr mit dir selbst und der Umwelt verbunden.

Andere Studien stützen, dass Meditation einen positiven Einfluss auf die Regulation von Stresshormonen haben kann. Wenn wir gestresst sind, setzen die Nebennieren Epinephrin und Cortisol in der Amygdala frei – dem sogenannten „Furchtzentrum“, einem Teil des Gehirns, der für die Kampf-oder-Flucht-Reaktion verantwortlich ist. Diese Hirnregion ist stark mit Depression und Angst verbunden. Messungen der Spiegel von Hormonen wie Cortisol, TSH und Testosteron während und nach der Meditation zeigten, dass diese deutlich sinken. So hilft Meditation Gehirn und Körper, sich zu schützen und sich langfristig auf stressige Situationen vorzubereiten, indem Ruhe geübt wird. Ein Ziel der Meditation ist es, alle Gedanken und Gefühle anzunehmen und mit ihnen umzugehen – einschließlich der negativen, denen du gerade begegnest –, indem du einfach die Augen schließt und dich auf dich selbst konzentrierst. Unser Körper und Gehirn passen sich unseren Verhaltensmustern an und reagieren darauf – und es liegt nur an uns, diese zu ändern. Vielleicht liegt das größte Potenzial der Meditation in der Behandlung von Menschen mit Hypertonie. In Entwicklungsländern gibt es laufende Therapien auf Basis verschiedener Meditationstechniken unabhängig von verabreichten Medikamenten.

Obwohl es (nach akademischen Forschungsstandards) noch ein „unerforschtes“ Gebiet ist, auf dem weitere wissenschaftliche Studien effizient und wirksam durchgeführt werden müssen, um Meditation als therapeutische Behandlung zu betrachten, sind die Vorteile für Gehirn und Körper weithin bekannt und anerkannt.

It emphasizes the inherent unity between the individual self (jiva) and the ultimate reality (Brahman) or consciousness. According to non-dual teachings, the individual self, which is often identified with the body, mind, and ego, is ultimately an expression or manifestation of the same underlying reality that encompasses everything. Non-duality invites us to look beyond the surface-level appearances and to inquire into the nature of our own experience. It encourages us to question our assumptions, beliefs, and concepts in order to discover the truth of our own being. It suggests that by investigating the nature of our thoughts, emotions, sensations, and perceptions, we can arrive at a direct experience of the non-dual reality. Practices such as self-inquiry, meditation, and contemplation are often employed to facilitate this process of self-discovery. By turning our attention inward and examining our subjective experience, we can begin to unravel the layers of conditioning and identification that perpetuate the illusion of separation. Non-dual philosophy asserts that the realization of non-duality is not something to be achieved or attained, but rather a recognition of what is already and always present. It is a shift in perception that reveals the underlying unity and interconnectedness of all things. This realization is said to bring about a profound sense of peace, freedom, and liberation, as one recognizes their essential nature as pure consciousness or awareness. In summary, non-duality is a spiritual philosophy that points to the inherent unity of all existence. It challenges the conventional understanding of reality as separate and encourages a direct exploration of one's own experience to discover the truth of one's being. By transcending the limitations of duality and recognizing the underlying oneness, non-duality offers a transformative understanding that can profoundly impact one's perception of oneself, others, and the world.
